Day 10: Bring Her A Smoothie

October 10, 2014 by Kara

The other day, my friend, Cathy wrote a heartfelt and extremely generous Facebook status about how we met when we were both diagnosed with breast cancer within weeks of each other in the summer of 2011.  She reminded me of the day that I went to visit her in the hospital the morning after her bilateral mastectomy with a smoothie in hand. I’m not sure how she was feeling about smoothies at the time, but the truth is she was the recipient of a yummy smoothie from the Nordstrom Ebar because it was about all I could stand to drink/eat at the time. I had my chemo infusion the day before and was on my way to get my immune-boosting shot Neulasta. I was hankering for a smoothie so my friend Amy and I made a quick detour to pick up some smoothies. Little did I know it would mean so much to Cathy that she would remember it 3 years later. Funny the things you don’t ever forget. Kinda wish I could forget that nasty taste the chemo leaves in your mouth.

Public service announcement/FYI: The smoothie pictured here was called the Mango Chill and it was delicious! However, as my Hawaiian husband has taught me, there is such thing as Mango mouth. If your Pink Warrior is recovering from a chemo treatment, it might be best to go with a berry flavor. They are equally delicious!
